ToitChezMoi connects Hosts over 60 years old who share part of their home with a young person under 30. They have a dual objective; strengthening social bonds and facilitating access to housing for young people.
The population over 60 is increasing and many live alone in their homes. On the other hand, many young people have difficulties finding housing due to low income or financial guarantees.
Faced with often very high rents and student budgets averaging €674.30 (source), Intergenerational Cohabitation offers the advantage of providing free or nearly free accommodation. This is in exchange for some services and sometimes a small rent.
The Host can welcome the young person in exchange for a caring presence, small services, or a modest financial contribution. The average contribution in France is €260/month. This allows, through intergenerational solidarity cohabitation, to pass on the values of mutual aid and solidarity which are the very values of ToitChezMoi.
Intergenerational solidarity cohabitation: what are the benefits for young people under 30?
Within the framework of intergenerational shared housing, the student moves into a room provided by the Host in their home. It can be free in exchange for services, up to 12 hours per week (presence, cooking, cleaning, gardening, etc.). It can also be paid in exchange for "small" services.
Thus, through an agreement made between the Host and the young Solidarity Cohabitant, the latter can find a simple way to find affordable housing. Or even to live rent-free. Another advantage for the young person is the possibility to live comfortably and more easily in large cities. Rents are generally higher there.
For each cohabitation to work smoothly, it is necessary that everyone is clear about what they expect from the other party. So when you introduce yourself in the "Description" section, do not hesitate to indicate your personality traits and skills.
Once the relationship is established, it is preferable to sign a personalized contract. This contract must be adapted to the situation encountered and shared.
