The cost of studies varies from one city to another, sometimes doubling. This is mainly explained by variations in rent prices. Rent represents on average 55% of a student's annual budget. In some cities, like Bordeaux, it can reach nearly 3/4 of the average budget.
TOITCHEZMOI offers to exchange a room in a host's home in return for services rendered. But if you do not have this opportunity, you will have to pay rent. In this case, there are aids for your housing that will reduce the price of your rent accordingly.
Aid to finance student housing
To finance your student housing, you have several options. The most common is to go through the Family Allowance Fund. You can make a request for APL, personalized housing assistance.
You can apply for this aid if you:
– Pay rent,
– Are a tenant of a housing of at least 9m²,
– Have no family relationship with the owner and have a lease in your name or that of your legal representative.

Once your housing is found, several aid schemes are available to you such as:
– Action Logement which allows you to benefit from a loan for the deposit (Locapass advance) and a guarantee for unpaid rent (Locapass guarantee).
– La Clé, to compensate for friendly, family or bank guarantees
– Finally, there are various local aids. For example, the Installation Aid for students or the AILE.
Renting a room in a host's home
A student primarily seeks to save money which will be reflected in their leisure activities. Renting a room in a host's home is a good way. This is especially true if you offer a number of services in exchange for all or part of the rent. These accommodations are generally located in large cities. In addition to paying less, the student, a Solidarity Co-tenant, enjoys family life, with meals at home and social ties. This is always nice when arriving in a new city.
This type of rental also allows you to claim APL:
Toitchezmoi offers a whole range of room offers with the Host-host, accommodation only in exchange for service or for service and contributions to charges for example. Feel free to consult our regularly updated listings. No doubt you will find what you are looking for.

Housing: aid for students
Financial aid can help you reduce your expenses.
– Hold a rental contract. The lease must be in your name, not your parents'. The housing must be your main residence, and you must actually occupy it.
– Have limited resources. Your income, as well as the amount of rent, must not exceed a certain ceiling. This varies according to the area where the rented property is located: Ile-de-France (zone I, highest ceiling), urban areas with more than 100,000 inhabitants and Corsica (zone II). Finally, other urban areas (zone III). Also know that if you choose shared accommodation, the allowance will be lower.
The CLE: a rental guarantee for students
It is not easy to find housing when you are a student. Landlords increasingly require guarantees. To help them, the government has set up since 2013 a scheme specially for them. With the CLE or "student rental guarantee", the State can act as guarantor for the rent of students' housing.
CLE: how does it work?
The CLE is intended for students who do not have the possibility to benefit from a guarantee from a close relative. To benefit from this guarantee, they must have income and be under 28 years old. This must be on September 1 of the year during which the contract is signed. Only certain students can exceed this age limit and benefit from it. These are doctoral students, or foreign postdoctoral students.
